Lot of new info since I have looked. Another site says Melissa Etheridge is now on board to play Janis. I had read that she really wanted the part. The webpage author said she shouldn't do it because it was based on the book by Peggy Caserta, Janis' lesbian lover. I have heard nothing over the years positive about that woman but I read the book and rather enjoyed it. She and Janis were quite involved and if Janis loved her, then what business is it of mine. Only she knows. The site went on to say that the other movie was sanctioned by the Joplin family. Makes me wonder if they are somehow trying to sanitize Janis and who and what she was-something she never did and would not approve of. If here now, would she be spending time with the "well-smelt baskets"-alastair reid, or still ruffling feathers and doing it her way. We all know the answer to that.
