I would think there would be a large intersection between the audience for 
Steely Dan and Pat Metheny: smart, inventive, genre-busting music with strong 
melodic/harmonic content.

And yet there are his many achingly beautiful slow ballads, like "Always and 
Forever" from his Secret Story album. Talk about strong melodic/harmonic 
content! Not to mention emotion as deep as an ocean.
