The worst *entertainment* violence (as opposed to the home-grown variety) I
remember as a child was the scene in "Frankenstein" where the monster (in
black and white, no gory red blood shots) carried the limp body of the little
girl he had killed. That scene used to give me nightmares that are to this
day among the worst I ever had. And the film doesn't even show the monster
killing the child!
I can't imagine how people sleep with some of the images from movies from the
last 30 years in their heads. But then, I know I am an extreme case because
it's not just violence that makes me ill, it's also TV doctor shows! I can't
stand the sight of blood.
Seems to me that as the violence gets turned up in entertainment, the
reaction to real violence in the world goes down.
