this is my first post to this club
so if you've already discussed these songs ad nauseum please bear with me.

Do you think joni would ever consider releasing all those old radio shows (i think
the versions i have are from a bbc show) she did in the mod 60's before her career
really took off? i can't believe there aren't any studio recordings of some of these
beautiful beautiful songs. One of them "urge for going" we know she recorded as the b
side to the "You turn me on" single. wouldn't it be nice if she had recorded "eastern
rain" somewhere/sometime? or on this new lp of hers--you think maybe she could have
recorded one of these, instead of say "cherokee louise?" (shudder)

to name a few

eastern rain-what a beautiful melody-
did you ever hear fairport conventions version?
joni's coke commercial/things go better-even tho this is a
joke song, i love it. I love it when she plays that strummy
    rock and roll guitair/riffing
brandy eyes-ok, this one is a little corny,
    but sweet none the less
mr. blue-ditto
born to the highway-the only one i really dislike
carnival in kennorra-pretty (and a bit bizarre)-very high
trebbly singing here-i miss joni when she was this
   happy/innocent (sounding)
winter lady-a beautiful perfect early joni song
just like me-love her lower register here-great great song
blue on blue-a little bland
come to the sunshine-a sad and lovely one
london bridge-ok this one is pretty unbearable-
but the accompanyong story is funny
go tell the drummer man-a bit strident and old fashioned

these are on double cd (boot) i bought on ebay last year

it seems pretty obvious that "song to a seagull" could have been a double, and while
most of these are inferior to "seagulls" selections, i dearly love these.

this cd also includes 2 versions of both sides now which i actually prefer to the
"clouds" version. Do you think that slowed down version on "clouds" is a reaction to
judy's hit version? (also on a side note--i just LOVE judy collins!-don't you?
especially her early alto folk stuff.) There's also an ok version of neil youngs
"sugar mountain." Neil sings a song here himself called "sweet joni". it is truly
awful. there is an extra verse in "morning morgantown." "chelsea morning" sounds as
fresh as the day it was written.

one more thing-boy did she talk a lot back then-giggly and non-stop. (kind of like
this email).

I also have an old vinyl bootleg which has a studio version of a song called "good
samaritan" which to me sounds like an eary version of "this flight tonight." Also on
this lp is a great live version of "get together"-such strong singing/yodling. why the
heck did joni quit yodling?

joni joni joni-i just love her when i listen top this early stuff

on another note-i just bought the rolling stone interview. those bitter comments
quoted here recently certainly seem much milder in their proper context. I never get
tired of reading any joni interview. of course she will continue to record! i just
wish she would start writing songs again instead of the dreary orchestral
monstrosities she's doing.

that's all for now

ps. my fondest joni moment - riding in a car in pgh, while it was stating to snow,
hearing "barangrill" on the radio for the first time. (pgh college station). That song
always takes me right there. was there ever an album by anyone, that could equal "for
the roses?" (ok, maybe "new york tendaberry")
