My god, the Republicans have gotten control of not only the House but
the Senate, too! I cannot believe that with so much unemployment, the
failing economy, bin Laden and Qaeda still active, the upcoming bombing
of Iraq, and such a conservative simpleton for president, that so many
people have voted for the Republicans!

So, anyone who thinks there's no difference between Democrats and the
conservative Republicans now in charge, well, starting in January when
the new Congress is sworn in and all the chairmanships of the
committees change, you will see how the conservative agenda plays out.
Bush will not have to be bothered with any of that annoying compromising
most presidents have to do.

It might be a good idea to become a Baptist now because the government
and religion are about to become intimately entwined. Prayers in schools
anyone? Faith-based giving rather government social programs? Those are
both on the conservative agenda. Let's just forget about that separation
of state and religion idea that Democrats like so much. Oh, and save all
your pennies for when you don't have a job, because the Republicans
don't like people to get unemployment benefits (that's one of those
Democratic things). And a gas mask and bomb shelter might be a good
idea, especially in the big cities, since those Repubs think bombing
other countries is A-OK, especially when there's lots of oil to share
with countries willing to help us go in and take it, and personal
fortunes to be made from all those military contracts. Think that
bombing's not going to get some of those people a little upset? Good
luck everyone!

This is heartbreaking. Frightening. And maddening. I'm going to lay low
for a few days.
