ok, my mother is the product of a native italian man and native polish woman.
we'll forget the italian stuff for now. on the polish side, i asked her
about this because we always ate periogies and pidgeons as i grew up.
periogies were potatoe and cheese in crepey pancakes and pidgeons were what
you are calling cabbage rolls.

i asked her specificall what holupche was. she said, holupche was the name
for two different things depending on where you were from in the slovac
regions. hulupche was either a name for pidgeons(cabbage rolls) or a name
for a dish of steamed cabbage and dumplings. according to her, hulupche was
never a name for periogies.

at the same time, she never heard of the word pidaheh but she did agree that
pidgeons and pidaheh had to be related some how.

after that she told me that george bush was an evil doer and his brother jeb
had rigged the elections in florida and she doesn't need any proof of it
because the proof is clearly written on the smirky face of dubya.

i didn't tell her who i voted for.
