Covering and bettering Joni is a tall order. Who has ever bettered her
definitives? Recent songs on albums by Prince have covered Joan Osbourne and
Sheryl Crow, One of Us and Every Day is a Winding Road respectively. I
reckon his are way better than the originals. Sorry Joan, sorry Sheryl. I
would so-o-o-o like to hear Prince doing any of Joni, for awesome's sake. If
only he would. He's the only ("pop") guy I can think of who could take
Joni's work and revamp it to something worthwhile. It's kinda hard to think
of one he could better though. Are there any versions that out-do the
original? An early Sinatra doing BSN seems a winner but I haven't heard that
one. For future reference - are there any JMDLers out there in the Houston
Texas area? I'll be visiting anon and would sure be into an
impromptu/scheduled Jonifest off Westheimer or there abouts. Now playing in
my head Prince's - The Ballad of Dorothy Parker, Help me I think I'm fall -
trin - ing. He's such a musical firecracker/jester/genius. Little hints at
his acknowledgement of Joni. I do believe there is a story of a time he
called her to duet on a raunchy number he had written but she declined coz
it didn't quite fit her "image". Anyone recall? Prince. Oh! Who I'd most
like to hear doing Joni covers;
Prince
Joan Armatrading
Sting
Van Morrison
Someone unexpected
Willy the Shake
