<<Covering and bettering Joni is a tall order. Who has ever bettered her
definitives? >>

Diane Reeves (River)
Bonnie Raitt (Song About the Midway)
Cyndi Lauper (Carey)
Betty Buckley (I Had A King)

Among a few others, perhaps...and that of course is only my opinion...it
would be blindly naive to think that Joni has done the DEFINITIVE version of
ALL of her songs...that would apply to any artist as prolific as Joni.

<<I would so-o-o-o like to hear Prince doing any of Joni, for awesome's sake.
If
only he would.>>

Actually, a live recording of "Case of You" exists, and it'll find its way
into the collection before long, I hope! ;~)

 <<It's kinda hard to think
of one he could better though. >>

I'd love to hear what he'd do with some of the DED and CMIARS material...I
think he could bring a soul feel to some of those songs that were rendered
sterile & neutered in their original studio recordings. I'll bet he could do
a Dancin Clown I could stomach, and a glorious job on "Beat of Black Wings".
Add some funky touches to Shiny Toys & Good Friends...oh, yeah, he could do a
whole record I'm sure...

<<Are there any versions that out-do the
original? >>

See my above response...

<<An early Sinatra doing BSN seems a winner but I haven't heard that
one.>>

I have. It sucks. Cheesy harpsichord. Void of emotion.

Bob, the covers answer man! :~)
