Well I put on my brand new copy of "Red Dirt Girl" six minutes ago. I took
it off after 5 minutes of torture. This recording features a harsh, gritty,
ripping sound in place of Emmylou's voice. I couldn't take it. In fact, I
don't believe her voice sounds like that. I never heard ANY voice sound
like that. It sounds just like a glass cutting blade scrapping, ripping
across a sheet of glass. Please tell me that I got a bad disc. Does anyone
have this recording? Does anyone have it on vinyl? Is this just a good
example of CD's limitations?
My previous examples of Emmylou's wonderful voice include "Quarter Moon in A
Ten Cent Town" (half speed mastered and on premium vinyl), and standard
issues on CD of "Spyboy" and "Wrecking Ball". Her wonderful voice was
fully evident on those titles. In short, what is up?
