Jim, How utterly wonderful that a cat has consented to sharing her life
with your own. ;) I predict that Joan Roberta will not be a disappointment.

I tend to agree that a cat's gotta go where a cat's gotta go. Deanna Ivy
the Wonderkitty, bless her, tends to behave in ways that seem to endanger
neither herself nor property. I don't have much in the way of experience in
guiding cats, and I'm not sure how good I'd be at it. Which is to say that
I'm powerless before Deanna.

But.

I've read that at least some cats will do all they can to avoid sticky
stuff, and that double-sided tape works wonders with these kitties when it
comes to discouraging them from jumping on counters, etc. So it might be
worth trying a few strips of tape before moving to the steel.

Deanna, BTW, is blissfully curled up on a comforter on the couch, quite
restful despite the Janet Reno interview playing on PBS at the moment.
Deanna's a hopeless slut when it comes to Janets.

Cheerz,

Janet and Deanna, both of them staying close to home today and avoiding the
Ricky Martin-George Dubya gridlock down the hill

You've got to roar like forest fire
You've got to spread your light like blazes
All across the sky
