If you want to keep your cat away from a particular area, arm yourself with
a spray bottle or squirt gun and spray her.  Of course, this method requires
your constant presence for awhile, until she learns to associate the place
with bad things.

I've heard that some cats actually enjoy being sprayed, and if your cat is
one of those, you're out of luck!

Don't bother with the word "no" or the phrase "bad kitty."  When she is
naughty, HISS at her like a nasty cat. She will understand that language
immediately.

As for us, we just let our cat go where she pleases, because all of our
furniture is crappy anyway.
