"What do you think?" Tyler asked

here is my opinion, in random bits of thoughts:

there is lots of great music out there & lots of kids are listening to lots
of good stuff...sure there is the britney bizkit stuff that seems to so
prevalent because it is being promoted so heavily by the music industry...

the music industry has always been about the business, not the music & the
greed & deceipt is legendary...there has always been crap out there that
kids like (for awhile) & which parents detest so that is nothing new.

that said, it does seem like commercial music is at a low point at the
moment in terms of the message & creativeness of the music...i think this is
a result of the stakes being so high, financially- the major labels sink
around a million dollars into each SONG, to promote it...which is taken out
of what the artist actully makes & if they don't recoup, then it is the
artist that is in debt. but i digress...

so, with this kind of financial risk, what is promoted is what is known to
sell--sex & violence...

of course the internet has in many ways started to level the playing field,
except that there is stuff going on that has the potential of changing all
this. for more information go to http://futureofmusic.org/ or
http://femmefatale.nu/dmca/freedom%20in%20webcasting3.htm

trying to get back to the original quesion, i don't think that what is being
played on the radio or being promoted by major labels is any more indicitive
of what kids are listening to than the 6 o'clock news is indicitive of what
is going on in the world. It is a part of it, but not the whole thing.

Please excuse me if some of this is unclear, after all mercury is in
retrograde!
