What about Sandanista by the Clash? While parts of it
are indeed brilliant, I think even the most diehard
Clash fan would admit there's more than a bit of
rubbish there as well. As a 2 lp set it would've come
close to equaling London Calling as their best. As
released, it usually falls near the bottom in a
ranking of their albums.

Other than live and compilations, there hasn't been
many triple albums but for some reason they're all
brilliant. Other than the aforementioned Prince
these come to mind:
George Harrison's - All Things Must Pass, by far the
best solo Beatle record.
Magnetic Fields - 69 Love Songs, a magnificent
sprawling collection of love songs from Joni fan
Stephen Merritt.
