That's an easy one for me Emily, and you hit the nail on the head. Not only
is NRH one of my top 3 Joni albums, but "Three Grey Rooms" is my favorite
last song on any of her albums. Sure it's a bit of a sad song, but it's one
that I can play over and over. Since you asked for a reason, I can think of
an occasion that happened about a month ago. As some of my JMDL friends
know, I went on an all gay cruise in early Feb. after the breakup of my 23 yr
relationship with Ed. On the third day of the cruise one early evening, I
saw a man from beneath my balcony who sent chills up and down my spine, and I
finally went down to talk to him. He said he was going to be at the dance
later in the evening after dinner. I couldn't wait to see him. I looked all
over the ship and never could find him that night. As the Titanic was
sinking in the moonlight, I went back to my room and listened to "Two Grey
Rooms" on the headset over and over. My situation wasn't exactly like the
song, but it's how I felt......happy if I could just get another glimpse of
him.
The following morning, I saw him again (below my balcony)...........This time
I didn't let him go, and the rest of the cruise was *wonderful*. I'm really
looking forward to seeing him again next month in San Diego :~)
To me "Two Grey Rooms" *is* a small gem lyrically, but WOW what impact. (for
me anyway)
