There's no denying her brilliant relationship with Jaco, especially for me,
on DJRD. However, it does seem Tom Scott and his associates get short
shrift in comparison to Jaco and his associates. The contributions of Scott
are usually just associated with Miles of Aisles, the live album that people
have always had mixed feelings about. I agree with what Steve Dulson said
about them standing out a bit too much on MOA. But "pound for pound," if you
look at the record of her many great albums that involved Tom Scott and his
associates it gives another perspective that they may have been quite
underrated in the overall history:
For The Roses: Tom Scott and Wilton Felder
Court & Spark: Tom Scott, Max Bennett, John Guerin, Joe Sample, Larry
Carlton, Wilton Felder, Chuck Findley
Miles of Aisles: Tom Scott, Max Bennett, John Guerin, Robben Ford
Hissing of Summer Lawns: Larry Carlton, Joe Sample, John Guerin, Max
Bennett, Robben Ford, Wilton Felder, Chuck Findley
With the exception of the live MOA, these albums are considered by many to
be her finest. They should also get some credit for being her first
"band",one that helped her branch out creatively and set the groundwork for
her later direction with Jaco, et al.
