Having heard several other recently released versions of "Summertime," 
including Peter Gabriel and others (not just comparing to the old Janis 
Joplin cover), as well as Joni's while driving with my son on our Spring 
Break trip last week, I have to say that I think Joni's version is lifeless.
Considering what a great job she does on "Trouble Man" and some of her other 
more recent covers in that vein, I was very disapointed in her "Summertime."
