after reading all the various posts about fav Joni albums (the masterpieces
and the non-masterpieces).......I started to feel a little outcast. I did
relate to the "I don't care for Joni's 80's period"............LOL
I guess I'm one of the few worshippers who don't belong in the BLUE or HEJIRA
category. I
love both albums of course......My personal favorite is THE HISSING OF SUMMER
LAWNS..........I love it for so many different reasons..........probably
because I'm a filmmaker and the songs are so cinematic for me in both their
sonics and their lyrics..........I admit that most of the album took a little
while to grow on me, I'd like to find someone who could jump right in on that
album after one listen!!!!!!! I think that "HISSING" is her most ambitious
album by far.........I'm not saying it's her "masterpiece", because she has
several of those.......I just think she broke the most new ground on
"HISSING" than on any other record, "DON JUAN" comes close, but not quite.
I notice that Joni doesn't perform the HISSING material hardly at
all.........with the exception of the interviews she has spent talking about
the horrible treatment the album got from reviews by the critics, she hasn't
really discussed the individual songs, etc.........and I've noticed that the
Articles section in the JMDL is spare from the "HISSING" period........
Desperately looking for more "HISSING" material to bite on...........(I do
have the demos of course......)..............and how did those come to see
the light of day??? I never did ask..
later
