Debra,
So glad to hear that you like Shadows and Light. That, next to Court and
Spark, is my favorite Joni recording! I think the way she does Woodstock is
extremely jazzy. I sing contemporary jazz and that song speaks to me like you
wouldn't believe!
I totally agree with you about "Amelia" as well. I am so sad that I never got
to see all of them play together live, but I am grateful their performances
were recorded. I consider Shadows and Light the ultimate concert. I am also
mad about Pat Metheny's solo in Amelia and Jaco's bass playing in
Heijera(sp?), Black Crow(wow!), as well as Dry Cleaner from Des Moines.
Michael Brecker is also awesome during Black Crow, Dry Cleaner from Des
Moines, and Goodbye Pork Pie Hat. I love her live version of Coyote too. I
bought Shadows and Light and heard the live versions of her songs before I
bought and heard the originals, so I am partial to them.
This is an excellent recording and encompasses all of Joni's moods and
styles. I love it!
