The concept is simple, use HTTP methods instead of coming up with an XML based standard to achieve RMI (sort of). E.g. if a certain URI is requested (example.com/user/15) you check the HTTP method (GET, POST, PUT, DELE ..etc) Depending on the method you decide what to do. E.g. GET would retrieve the user details, while DELE would delete that user. I highly suggest you check Yahoo's REST services, AFAIK they were the biggest promoters of this technique. I'm a big fan of REST, it's simple, straight forward and doesn't need any big libraries/extension to work with. I really don't like SOAP, it's an over kill.
