As I wrote in the other thread I am not in favor of year based version numbers except for software that follows a strict yearly release schedule or where the year is somehow relevant (like tax software). For all others I prefer feature based version numbers where a change in the major part indicates substantial and potentially disruptive changes like a new API version or a completely new UI or so.
