Hi everyone, I suppose I'll introduce myself as well, and then I can go back to lurking.
My name is Joeri Sebrechts. I'm currently the lead web developer for http://www.mcs.be , a Belgian company specializing in enterprise facility management software. (Just in case anyone from Belgium hangs out here: we're hiring.) 6 years ago I started my career as a desktop app developer (Delphi), but things took a turn and now I'm responsible for migrating a 2 million line windows software suite to the web (conceptually improving the apps as we go along). The user requirement to offer a look-and-feel that matched the desktop suite inevitably led me down the path of ever more JavaScript, up to the point where our new developments are now mostly client-side (ExtJS with PHP-based web services underneath for the data layer). JavaScript is a curious beast. It's a language that's painful to use if you misunderstand it, but gets progressively easier with each "aha" moment. The more I learn about it, the more I like it, and it has become my favorite language. I hope to keep having those "aha" moments. To that end, thanks for this very interesting mailing list. I've already learned a few new things, and that's really what it's all about.
