While I almost agree with the two of you, there is ofcourse those that have
legitimate questions that may not be so obvious. I have seen a TON of emails
from new JSP users that I would agree..are plain stupid to ask. They are
easy ones to figure out if you just read or hell..do a web search.

But there are many good beginner level questions that quite frankly, I agree
are difficult to find and/or are not very well explained. Therefore, while
the majority of questions are not advanced questions regarding JSP,
servlets, and java, its just as easy to "skip" the email. That is what I do
when I am not interested in one. I get about 90 emails a day from this list
alone, and I tend to answer as many as I can, even in my very busy schedule,
just because many have helped me.

I don't agree with the term "lazy" for all of those requests. Some, like "Im
new to JSP, where can I find more about it?" Sure..those are lazy. But
others that may be as simple as a question from a JSP .92 person asking why
something isn't working for JSP 1.0 engine, well..its not clearly defined in
all implementations and docs, and therefore those people I don't consider
lazy..they are just plain stuck.

I myself have asked numerous questions that if I had the time I would love
to look up. Because I have so many things to do on my job, I am not at
liberty to spend hours looking them up. Sad to say, but true for many of us,
including the gurus of this and other mailing lists. Fact is, I have posted
some questions here (and still do) that I am sure I could figure out if I
looked long enough. Call me lazy if you like, but if somebody knows the
answer and it speeds up the process for me, I consider that a more efficient
use of my time.

There is another issue. While some people can probably learn and retain
everything they read the first time around, I would think alot more people
learn by doing, and by constantly talking about it. I know I have picked up
on a number of areas of JSP, Java, Servlets, etc by trying to answer others
questions regarding it. In other words, the more I reply and write about a
given topic, the more I have learned about it. Sometimes its from replies
telling me I am not exactly correct, and other times its because its finally
sunk in.

So, I say..rifle through the emails..if they are too primitive for you to
answer..ignore them. Thats a nice feature..you aren't forced to read, and if
you do, you don't even have to reply.

Don't get me wrong. There are time where I get aggravated seeing the same
emails, or similar topics over and over again. But if it weren't for this
list, there are a number of things I wouldn't know today, and I appreciate
very much the time spent by those that have helped me out, and have helped
others out that I have read.

Anyways..no harsment is intended in my reply. I just had something to say as
well. :)
