Depends on the industry and the location in the UK.
Financial industry pays the most, e.g. banking for me personally.
Media publishing did pay so well last time I checked
Also the cost of living just like in the United States.
West coast being the highest, East coast next, florida some where in between
I hope I am right here.
For instance if you live in the South of England , South in the UK then salaries
are higher in than in the north of england or scotland, but then again the
cost of living in higher in the south.
Also what aspect of Java API you know or have experience.
Hot skills are JSP of course plus any other J2EE stuff like BEA, Websphere.
or other application servers. Basic internet skills such client side
HTML, DHTML, JavaScript Dreamweaver , Ultradev and Golive. Server side like perl
cgi, xml, xsl, xlst will bring in the monies as well.

hi,
its good to see java technologies have life & i wish to happen so,
but
i found a totally different situtation in my place(Bangalore/India),
i am giving my personal experience, i agree that this may not be the case
for all.
basically i am fresher direct from campus with B.Tech(=BS) degree in cs,when
i was
searching for job, i found many many companies who r just looking for c/c++
programmers than java programmers, due to which i remain unemployed for some
time.
i am definitely not a bad java programmer
one intersting thing i found in my interviews is the last question will be
*r u intersted to change the field*
i used to reply *no*
and the response from them is *....*
if some one feels its off-topic then i am really sorry for that.
basically i am mailing this is to know "is it myself alone who has faced
this
situation r some thing like this happening".
