I'm here; I'm still active; I'm busy laughing at the people who seem to be
happy with useless mailing lists, clogged with offtopic posts that nobody
else seems to mind. I don't mind flames; I don't mind endless flames; I do
mind wasting my time on people who don't want to pursue excellence.
I've been considering looking into a mailing list that's a bit more
exclusive, meaning "actually focused on JSP." I'm sure most JSP-I members
would find such an attitude elitist and offensive... how dare I expect to
actually focus on JSP issues! To them: oh, well. When such a list is set up,
I'll be moving there; answering moronic questions that the specs and
experience show the answers to isn't exactly my cup of tea. I find this list
depressing, most of the time. JSP is a very nice technology, with actual
issues of its own; I don't see why people are here talking about JDBC
drivers, or JSP-level user authentication, or "how do I declare a variable?"
I'm now at the point of answering things that I think are too stupid to
tolerate just to verify that accurate answers are in the archives, and maybe
to show people a little bit about how to think orthogonally instead of
chunking everything into one level.
That's a lost cause, I know - the death of IT isn't VB, it's the people who
think VB is the death of IT. Nobody bothers to investigate how to do things,
or why to do things; it's all "let's focus ONLY on the problem at hand, to
the point where there ARE no other problems..." when a little bit of
perspective leads to the solution to the problem at hand.
