I don't think we should disable this list any time soon. If there's
potential to accidently shut people out, which I think there is, I would
prefer to leave both lists open. We can encourage people to use the
LocationTech list, as there is movement away from SourceForge. What matters
most is that people can communicate freely about the project, and the move
to the LocationTech mailing list should only help this; let's not shut down
the old lines of communication unnecessarily.
For the 10 year question, I pose the same question to SourceForge...will it
be supporting a mailing list for JTS in 10 years? I honestly think that the
Eclipse Foundation has more potential staying power.
There was a discussion on whether or not to make one or two lists, and what
to name them. For simplicity, we went with one list, and using the
convention of naming it '-dev', with the understanding that this would also
contain non-dev (community) discussions. Other lists have separate '-user'
and '-dev' lists. I can see how having only a '-dev' list might be
confusing to people who want to pose non-dev questions. I think just to be
clear we should have the two separate lists. We chose only one list at the
time for simplicity but we should perhaps reconsider that decision.
