It is a dependency injection framework that promotes configuration
over convention and is bloated, commercially-inspired (by companies
like mine), and overall unnecessary. But, was the hot thing a couple
years ago and is now embedded any many abstract frameworks ala Grails,
etc.

New for 2008, The Spring Experience conference is now SpringOne
Americas (www.americas.springone.com). SpringOne is the annual
conference for the global Spring community. This event is brought to
you by SpringSource and the No Fluff Just Stuff Software Symposium
Series. SpringOne will focus on the emerging technologies and best
practices around the Spring Framework and enterprise software
development. This event will feature the project founders, core
committers, authors, consultants, project leads, and professional
trainers.
Having drawn thousands of developers, architects, CIOs and CTOs
since its inception, SpringOne Americas, formerly known as The
Spring Experience, is designed to support the Spring and
SpringSource developer and technical thought leader community.
SpringOne Americas provides an open forum to share insights on
current development challenges and future directions around Spring,
as well as to showcase the latest advancements in Spring technology.
Keynote sessions by Rod Johnson, the ‘creator and father of Spring,’
John Rymer, industry analyst from Forrester Research, and Adrian
Colyer, the chief technology officer for SpringSource, will headline
the conference. The four-day conference will also feature more than
70 sessions split into five parallel tracks that address all aspects
of Spring, including web architecture, enterprise integration and
large-scale production systems. Other sessions will be led by many
of the core developers of the Spring Framework and Apache projects
including Juergen Hoeller, Rob Harrop, Ben Alex, and Filip Hanik.
“With the enterprise-wide adoption of Spring as a mission-critical
part of application infrastructure, technologists increasingly need
to understand best practices, learn about the successes of Spring-
based solutions, and gain insight into the roadmap for the
technology,” said Rod Johnson, CEO of SpringSource. “SpringOne is
the perfect venue to achieve these goals, get valuable education
from the technology experts, and to network with other Spring
professionals.”
The conference’s concentrated focus will be on in-depth technical
presentations, customer testimonials, hands-on workshops and
technical advice about Spring Portfolio projects and SpringSource
products, including SpringSource Enterprise and the new SpringSource
Application Platform. In addition, the conference will feature
technical presentations on infrastructure technologies from the
Apache Software Foundation, namely the Apache Tomcat Application
Server.
