I am preparing to expose servers to the Internet (ports 25, 80, 110 and perhaps more later) and I want to prepare for the possibility of denial of service attacks. Is there some website, email list, magazine, or book which someone would recommend to me, where I can see a cataloging of the types of attacks which I may experience and a summary of counter measures available.
You've really opened a can-o-worms, there!
I would start by looking at resources that are specific to your OS and server-software. If you are running Linux, the TriLUG would be a great place to start - they can quickly direct you to the best resources. IIRC, there are security-focused groups/lists for Tomcat, Apache, etc.
You can also use something like: http://www.abuse.net/relay.html to check your mail server for an open relay.
