No, it's not perfect, but it is (AFAIK anyway) the only certified J2EE compliant open-source container. Keep an eye on the Apache Geronimo project though. When it's ready, it should be a worthy competitor for
JBoss.
I have to take back part of that. Apparently JonAS <http://jonas.objectweb.org/> is also J2EE 1.4 certified. I wasn't aware of that until yesterday.
I haven't really heard much about JonAS lately... anybody here have
any experience with it? I seem to recall hearing that RedHat was bundling JonAS with their distro, but my recollection could be off.
Also, another factor to consider with JBoss: HP announced some sort of
partnership / support arrangement with JBoss a while back, and Novell just announced that they are dropping Silverstream and bundling JBoss now. I'd consider both of those things to be pretty strong positive
endorsements for JBoss. Novell and HP don't make decisions like that
lightly.
