There has been some limited discussion on the old JUMP user mailing
list about making OpenJUMP an OSGeo Project. It seems there is some
energy and support for this idea. I think this may have changed from a
year ago.

I'd like to propose the following:

Two or three of our core programmers and users can examine the
requirements to become an OpenJUMP project. We can look at what we
would need to change, and what work would be involved. They could then
produce a short list of benefits and drawbacks. We can consult with
David Sampson, who is familiar with the process.

We can then discuss the results of this informal analysis and perhaps
have a vote on the way to move forward, after addressing major
concerns.

I'm thinking we could have this analysis done by the end of June or
middle of July?

If we can't do that we probably don't have any business trying to be
an OSGeo project in the first place.

I'd be willing to help out, since I'm already involved in the OSGeo on
a limited basis, but we should have two or three other people also
take a look.

Any volunteers?
