Hi,
The other zoom tools are helpful. But specifically I'd like to use the zoom bar
since the zoom bar will zoom with the center unchanged during the process.
PageUp/down behaves the same in Substance L&F as clicking on either side of the
knob of the tool bar. Plus I have to click on the zoombar to let the zoombar to
receive keyboard events, which adding an extra step. My work on top of OpenJump
is for the very busy CSRs in a call center, so any extra step will slow then
down.
Techies obviously enjoy choices but too many ways to do about same thing causes
confusion to regular call center workers.

Hi,
I think that clicking to the left or right from the zoom slider gives rather
limited impression of the OpenJUMP zooming possibilities. In addition to that
it is possible to
- drag the slider to the left or right and get what ever zoom level
- press Page Up and Page Down keys to get small zoom steps (this might be what
you are after)
- use Zoom In/Out tool and left/right click to get bigger steps
- use Zoom In/Out tool and mouse wheel to get smaller steps
- get the Zoom In/Out tool function into use anytime by using keyboard Alt as a
shortcut
- use the Zoom realtime tool

Hi Larry,
I did some research and it turned out that the step size is controlled by the
BasicSliderUI behind JSlider (I'm using Substance L&F) in my case and move 1/10
of the total value range. In case of metal L&F it jumps by one unit. I don't
know if there is a simple way of configuring that.
Regarding the use of logarithmic scale: Google map uses 18 levels of zooming
with each level doubling the resolution of the previous one. It can cover from
the entire earth surface to the street level, sufficient in most cases. In my
case I'm doing a advanced restaurant search tool often I feel the OpenJUMP
zooming jumps a little too fast. I think if I can find how to set the "step
size" of the JSlider then I have the control.
Any Swing insight here?

I'm not sure if the zoom bar can display the full range of zooms if the
step size is only 2. It is kind of like a logarithmic scale. The zoom bar's
purpose is to provide a fast way of making gross changes in zoom levels, and to
display the current zoom level's order of magnitude. The usual way of zooming
by a factor of two is to use the zoom tool, either by explicitly selecting it,
or by using a quasimode modifier key (Alt). A more dynamic zoom capability is
available with the Zoom Realtime tool (use left and right mouse drag to
reposition and zoom at the same time).
