When I want to produce bytecode, I use javac (the backend, I create a
tree and call the gen pass) or ASM.

I use javap (John Gibbons did a great job to revamp it for 1.7) and the
bytecode outline eclipse plugin
(http://asm.ow2.org/eclipse/index.html) when I want to browse bytecodes.
