For those that find this e-mail thread… The problem is w/ the "Dark" theme: text is black on a black background. The message is there and downloaded, you just cannot see it. See bug 6123: http://code.google.com/p/k9mail/issues/detail?id=6123
The workaround is to change to the "Light" theme.
