Ok, maybe I have to explain the purpose of this address. It´s simple:
every mail wich is send to [email protected] (my domain) is collected there
(sorry for the bad explanation - I´m from Germany and my English is not
perfect).
What you are talking about is simply called a 'catch-all', and should
only be done on the SERVER.
But you don't have to create an actual ADDRESS like that.
You simply disable recipient verification on thge server.
Now... what you really need to understand is that this is a very BAD
idea in 99% of all cases, regardless of why you think different.
Why? Because it totally BREAKS smtp - by virtue of breaking recipient
validation. If the sender sends to an invalid address, they will never
know - and you will eventually be inundated with spam at that domain and
will waste far more time going through the emails sent to the catch-all
(if you continue to do so in the first place) than you will dealing with
your real email.
Advice: don't do it. Let SMTP work the way it is supposed to. If someone
sends an email to the wrong address (typo or whatever), they will get a
bounce, and find and fix the problem.
But it is very comfortable for me to have only one mail account and
if I only have to check one address.
So just set up aliases for the different addresses you want to use.
So I think that´s not stupid...quite the contrary.
On the contrary, it is a very bad idea, except in some very specific and
very unique circumstances.
