Poll once every 24 hours or so. I don't poll often. I think there's also an option to poll when checking for push or something like that.

Effectively, polling is asking the server what's going on. It's how a lot of stuff gets sync'd up.

Push is when the server tells the client (K-9) what's going on.

That's a rather simplistic explanation but it should give you the idea.

Okay, this might be where your problem is. Check through your fetching mail 
settings. I think if you agent ever polling, it won't delete the messages from 
the server.
