A zero-byte attachment wasn't the case here. As I recollect, K9 listed the file as being 69Kb (not 6.9, as listed above).
The more annoying failure was lack of text in the message area when mail was opened. On the second install, messages were initially displaying as expected. Then, for no apparent reason, they would not. Reload, and text area remained blank. ASUS HD7 MemoPad, as mentioned.
