That this is only happening with one specific device that is using
K-9 would seem to imply that there is something with that device's
networking that may be the underlying issue, perhaps an issue
specific to the Samsung [tablet] Android release.

What is the specific "Android 5" release -- look at the "about
device" selection under "settings" -- there are a range of "Android
5" point releases on Samsung devices.

Don, you also indicate you are using an Samsung tablet -- what
specific Android release does it have.

The K-9 5.007 version was released on Nov 28 2015, so if you have it
auto-updated, that release would likely have been installed within a
couple of days after that.
