I don't know that this will address this issue, but there is a
setting controlling "battery optimization". It looks like apps are
defaulted to optimize, setting it to "don't optimize" may keep K-9
from going to sleep when other apps do.
You can get to this by:
- [android system] settings
- battery
- vertical dots (upper right)
-- select battery optimization
- "not optimized" pulldown
-- select "all apps"
- scroll down/select K-9
- set to "don't optimize"
