In general we strive for some balance. But I do agree that this is specific case was a mistake. This issue has nothing to do with having a web translation system. Even with a web translation system only people with commit rights (developer rights) would have to approve the change, just like it happens with code. Also, it's not that "none of us want to put the string online". Please don't spread false information.
