Bug ID: 520173
Summary: Menu bar collapsed into menu button. Can't disable
Application menu daemon in System Settings -
Background Services do not appear there.
Classification: Plasma
Product: plasmashell
Version First 6.6.4
Reported In:
Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: Application Menu (Kicker) widget
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: 1.0
DESCRIPTION
Plama defaults to a menu button in applications' upper left title bars instead
of displaying a full menu. Full application menus can be restored by SEARCHING
for Background Services (it no longer appears in System Settings in Endeavour
at least), locating Application menu daemon in the Startup Services section and
unchecking the box. Clicking Apply seems to cause plasma to restart. If not,
log out, then back in. Menus restored.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Start normal KDE/Plasma session.
2. Observe no application menus.
3. Discover menus now collapsed under button in upper left. Hate that!
4. No solution easily discernable on searching - many complaints. Proposed
solutions to do with Systrem Settings, Background Services. (e.g. "Go to
Settings -> Startup and Shutdown -> Background Services -> Startup Services ->
turn off Application menus daemon" from askubuntu.com.)
5. Background Services not found in System Settings.
OBSERVED RESULT
Collapsed menus.
Background Services not available in System Settings
EXPECTED RESULT
Background Services, Startup Services, Application menu daemon enable/disable
available through System Settings. Disabling daemon restores full menus in
applications.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System (available in the Info Center app, or by running `kinfo` in a
terminal window):
KDE Plasma Version: 6.6.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.25.0
Qt Version: 6.11.0
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
WORKAROUND:
Searching for "Background Services" in Application Launcher discloses entry,
apparently assigned to System Services despite not appearing there. Daemon can
be located and disabled from there.
