--- Comment #1 from TraceyC <[email protected]> ---
I'm not able to reproduce this problem on two different laptops, both of which
have a fingerprint reader. One has Plasma 6.6.5, on the other Plasma is built
from git-master. On both, after a successful authentication with a fingerprint,
the screen unlocks immediately without needing to do anything else.

Are you using the default kde-fingerprint file from Ubuntu? I noticed this
comment in there:
# Taken from gdm3’s gdm-fingerprint

This file's rules differ from the one on my systems (from Solus). Mine, which
is the default shipped by KDE, looks like this:
#%PAM-1.0

auth required pam_shells.so
auth requisite pam_nologin.so
auth requisite pam_faillock.so preauth
-auth required pam_fprintd.so
auth optional pam_permit.so
auth required pam_env.so

account include system-local-login
password required pam_deny.so
session include system-local-login
