For KDE apps, I agree this is no problem.

Because this is a library, I'm thinking forward towards the future when we have
potentially hostile or even just sketchy 3rd-party apps using it.

I know they can already do this if they're unsandboxed or have blanket network
permission through the sandbox. But the way we build our libraries matters; it
demonstrates what we think is good or at least can live with. So I think it's
important that we build this with the expectation that apps using it may not be
100% above-board.
