"Would probably be better" is not a terribly strong argument. What is the issue
with using a plugin to do this job?

Exporting stuff in a way that is compatible with specific external programs is
a prime candidate for plugins. It doesn't require deep integration into the C++
code, so a native implementation wouldn't have any additional functionality.
They can also easily be extended with additional features without having to
wait for a new release of Krita, so that part would actually be worse if it
were a native feature.
