            Bug ID: 526552
Summary: Add optional VLC-based backend for robust video
                    preview playback
    Classification: Applications
           Product: dolphin
      Version First unspecified
       Reported In:
          Platform: openSUSE
                OS: Linux

  Target Milestone: ---

DESCRIPTION
Add an optional backend/engine option for video previews in Dolphin (and the
information panel) that utilizes a robust external-style library like VLC,
rather than relying solely on QtMultimedia/FFmpeg. Additionally, consider
improving the preview's UI controls (such as replacing or augmenting the tiny
progress/timeline bar and basic play button with more intuitive playback
controls) to enhance usability.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Dolphin on a system using modern AMD hardware and Wayland.
2. Navigate to a folder containing standard H.264 video files.
3. Select a video file to trigger the preview in the information panel or hover
preview.

OBSERVED RESULT
The video preview either displays a black screen due to hardware/RHI rendering
incompatibilities with Qt6 Multimedia, or crashes/freezes entirely when
attempting to seek/skip to a specific timestamp using the current timeline
control.

EXPECTED RESULT
A robust, stable video preview playback that does not crash the file manager or
fail to render, with an option to route decoding through a more flexible engine
like libVLC, accompanied by cleaner and more reliable playback controls.
