Often, and over several versions of distributions and versions of KDE the logout lockup would usually present on my systems as black screens with a moving cursor. It would also sometimes lock up with no cursor present. Getting the system to return to a login prompt would traditionally require killing all user specific KDE processes. More recently, user processes would exit leaving no user specific session or processes. In this case, a restart of the SDDM service returned the workstation to a login prompt.
