One might try removing the ~/.kde and/or ~/.kde4 directories -- AFTER BACKING THEM UP because, you know, mail and contacts and stuff goes in there as well -- to see if that helps; running kbuildsycoca4 might help, and possibly throuwoing out /opt/kde-4.1/ entirely before reinstalling, because there might be crufty old libraries lying around.
