I think we need a better system to catalog and share libraries of components and footprints, may be using an online library or at least some centralized point with a rigid organization.
This list should be the right starting point to discuss how this thing could (if ever) be done. I have designed myself some components, but I am not shure about their correctness because I am not a true electronician.... so I think a centralized catalog, with an upload mechanism and several mantainers checking data should be a good idea.
