Put the cursor over the origin and hit the spacebar, that way the right hand set of coords in the bottom right of your screen will be relative to your origin (or wherever you hit the spacebar). As for fine placing, it is easy to flip resolution on the the fly, just click the right mouse button and you can temporarily set the resoltion at max.
