what you say seems reasonable.  

i was not trying to change any of the module numbers.  i had only made some 
changes to the wiring and then ran netlist to include the changes in the pcb 
layout.  netlist (or something) made changes in the numbering of the modules in 
the eeschema drawing when i went back and looked.   very frustrating!!
