Maybe the centre of the pad or track. Anyway, in general options, magnetic 
pads and magnetic tracks are very useful.

With preferences->colors you can toggle individual layers

I do not use this kind of feature, I usually keep "testing" versions and 
afterwards redo the final routing. But it is a good wish.

I know people doesn't like to read manuals, but this behaviour is well 
documented ;-)

I don't fully disagree with this feature. Anyway, I like the way it works now 
because  makes me to be sure of the library I'm using. And it is also well 
expained in the manual.

I don't want to begin a debate about "manual is not needed for intuitive 
applications". I want only to underline the fact that these are not try and 
error features.
