The top of this page shows what was originally going to be 'nightly builds'.
http://kicad.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
What happened next is that the person doing the builds became enamored
with Linux, and for good reason. (I only run Linux.)
Then he finally reached a point like most Linux users, where booting
into Windows just becomes no longer worth it.
So he worked on building the Windows binary from a Linux machine using
cross compilation. This was a valiant effort and it is nearly done.
There are some minor problems regarding "locales". So the resultant
Windows binary does not show the proper international language presentation.
At this point his efforts were stalled, and he is waiting help from
someone who can find their way through that problem. And there are only
about 8 people involved with Kicad that I think could do that. And for
all 8 or so it has not yet reached a top priority.
The nightly build maintainer is not a programmer.
Once this issue is fixed, it should be possible for the nightly build
maintainer simply to run a cron job to build the linux and windows
binaries from a Linux development system.
Until then, if you were running Linux, I believe he can build you a
Linux version at any time by mere request.
(If this is the case, make noise here, on this list.)
That is my current understanding. So if you read me correctly, your
chances of getting a Linux binary 'nightly build' are higher than
getting a Windows one this point in time.
That should tell you something about the momentum of Linux.
